Its April and we celebrate Mother Earth perhaps we should celebrate and acknowledge our mother planet daily. She does provide for our every need.
Hate to throw things out? Want to find ways to re use,re-purpose and recycle. Here is a unique way to re-purpose those old shoes and boots you have in your closet.
There are some cool grass roots things happening worldwide that are giving us new ways to help utilize what we have.
Big Reuse in the New York City has come up with a way to salvage building material. https://www.bigreuse.org/about/
NYC’s construction and demolition industry throws away nearly 7,000,000 tons of building materials annually. The goal of Big Reuse is to demonstrate another option for materials diversion and hopefully inspire the city to require recycling and reuse for construction and demolition waste.
Another option through the USA is Freecycle https://www.freecycle.org
“The Freecycle Network® is made up of 5,000+ groups with over 9 million members across the globe. It’s a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (and getting) stuff for free in their own towns and keeping good stuff out of landfills.”
Members give freely with no strings attached, with the goal to instill a sense of generosity of spirit and strengthen community ties. I used this both as a giver and receiver when I lived in St. Petersburg Florida and it worked. People from all walks of life have joined together to turn trash into treasure.
Sweden has taken a big step and opened the world’s first mall of repaired recycled goods. The mall also features an organic restaurant. http://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/sweden-opens-worlds-first-mall-repaired-recycled-goods/
The shopping mall sells only repaired or up-cycled products. The center, which is operated by the local municipality, has benefited the local economy by creating 50 new repair and retail jobs, and providing space for private start-ups and local artisans.
Are there places you know about that are doing this? Or you have other ways to re-purpose? Share them in the comments section.
Small steps by many equal big results… Art
